Your Decision Can Make All the Difference!

Have you been looking at your budget and realize that you can’t afford the same huge copier like you have had for years and now you need to go ahead and either downsize or buy a used copier.  A used copier in Las Vegas can sound like an intriguing idea, but we would like to go ahead and give you some advice before snapping up a used copier thinking you are getting an amazing deal.  Here are some of our “rules of thumb” when considering a used copier in Las Vegas.

  • If you are getting a used color copier, don’t get it if it is 3 years old or older unless it is going into a non-critical area of your company (i.e. you can be down there for 3 days and that would be acceptable)
  • If you do less than 4,000 black and white copies per month, or if you don’t use tabloid, don’t bother.  There are small new ones like the Xerox Phaser 3635 or the Xerox Phaser 3635/X available for about $2,000.
  • Don’t buy the used copier if it has to be shipped across the country.  Let the dealer buy it and go through it and then buy it from them if everything is in great shape.
  • Restore all factory defaults.  The last thing you need are some screwy settings the last person had on their copier (fax numbers, job builds, etc).
  • Ask questions about the copier history.  Why is it being sold in the first place?

Have you ever walked up to a multi-function machine in Las Vegas, maybe it was a HP Laserjet 4345 or maybe it was a Xerox WorkCentre 4150.  You don’t really know what to do and you are in a big hurry.  What happens?  Normally, the admin gets called over to do the job quickly because it takes too long to learn how to do a job that you normally only do once a month.  Frustrating way to work with a multifunction copier in Las Vegas!

We often are not able to use the multifunction copiers in the market because either we have not received adaquate training or we have not practiced this process enough to be able to do it efficiently.  What can you do to address this issue?

  • Make sure you know what you want to do in the first place

  2. Avoid companys that have no vendor tie ins with a manufacturer.  Even a small copier company should be sighned up with 1 or two legitimate vendors.
  3. Avoid 5 year leases for the most part unless you actually tend to last at least 5 years with your current copier fleet!

Best Practices for Buying a Used Copier in Las Vegas

When the economy gets tight, and certainly it has around Las Vegas with nearly 13% unemployment, then business owners get more creative with how they spend their hard earned dollars.  One particular item which will get looked at is the office copier.  Before your run out and buy whatever you see online, here are a few used copier buying tips for our Las Vegas customers!

  1. When you purchase a used copier, always make sure you get at least a 3 month warranty.  Companies are more reluctant to sell you a crappy copier if you have a longer warranty on it.
  2. See if you can get the service history.  Most machines will at least store their errors on the system if you can get those at least, it will help you know what problems the machine has had.
  3. See how old the machine is.  Don’t buy a 5 or 6 year old used copier.  Parts get hard to come by (unless you only need it for a year or so)
  4. Shop around a bit.  There are more and more used copiers in the market these days, so there are always good deals on used copiers.
